Winter is Still with Us!

It has been two weeks since the big storm and we still have snow.
It certainly doesn't look like "spring is just around the corner."
So much for dear PP's prediction.

Lunch-n-Learn

Curtis came to the lunch table with his HomeSat headphones on and said, "Um, this food smells so tantalizing!" This blog post was titled after Jeff's "favorite" title for Lunch meetings at work. Actually, he can't stand the term.

Sisters

Here is a picture taken yesterday evening by my sister. I thought it turned out fairly well. It is a picture of 4 of the 5 of us girls. Four of us five sisters were able to get together this weekend. We had a really enjoyable time. We were sorry that our other sister wasn't able to be with us.

California Woods - Maple Magic

Today 3 of my sisters and I visited a nature preserve in the Greater Cincinnati area and watched a demonstration of tapping maple trees. It was a very informative and interesting time.

(Vicki - Here is a picture just for you. It was taken by Lyndi the same night as I took the rest of the pictures.)
I have finally arrived at Lyndi's. A few hours late but I made it. Since I hadn't taken my photo of the day yet, I decided to take pictures of my sisters and blog them.

Sam's Art Assignment

Here are the results of the art assignment I gave to Samuel this week. He was to complete one drawing of a bird but decided to go above and beyond the requirements. Here are two photo collages of Samuel's drawings. He drew these freehand by looking at photos of birds in our Birds of Indiana Field Guide. He thorougly enjoyed himself working on these drawings over several days this week.
Drawn by: Samuel (age 7)
Top left - Blue Jay, Top Right - Dark Eyed Junco, Bottom Left - Black Capped Chickadee, Bottom Right - Tufted Titmouse.

Drawn by: Samuel (age 7)
Top Left - House Wren (he had a little difficulty with this one), Top Right - Red-Winged Blackbird, Bottom Left - American Goldfinch, and Bottom Right - Northern Cardinal (our state bird)

Happy Birthday to Julissa!

Today is my Julissa's 2nd birthday. It is hard to believe that it has been 2 years since her birth. Time has passed by so quickly. One of the kids thought she looked taller today so I measured her height and she is 35 inches tall. She has definitely grown quite a bit in the last few months.
I will post more later on today after she has had her cake and gifts. Here is the link for the candy heart site in case you would like to make one or more for your blog.

Captain Calico

Today in Sam's Language lesson he composed a sentence about a kitten by using adjectives to describe the noun, an action verb to tell us what his kitten was doing, and an adverb to describe the action verb. His sentence was "My soft, tiny, calico kitten jumps carefully." Then for an enrichment activity, he had the option of drawing a picture of his cat. Here is the picture he drew along with his cat's name - Captain Calico!

Sam's Fat Free Cookies

Sam noted that 90 of the 210 calories in this bag of cookies were from fat. He ate 3 of the 7 cookies and Jeff helped him calculate the amount of calories he had eaten. When he found out that he had eaten 90 calories, he exclaimed that he had eaten all the fat in the bag of cookies. Therefore, by Sam's calculation, the remaining 4 cookies were fat free.

K'nex Arch Bridge

This is a K'nex arch bridge that Curtis built today.
It was built from the K'nex Intro to Structures: Bridges Kit that he received for his birthday. He has really enjoyed this kit and has built several different bridges. In his instruction booklet, it said that there are still Roman arch bridges standing today after 2,000 years.

Brown Sugar Memories

Last night as I was baking cookies, I opened a fresh bag of brown sugar and was suddenly transported back in time by the wonderful smell. Back to the time when, as a child, I would watch Grandma prepare cinnamon rolls. She would smother the dough with homemade butter, load it with Domino brown sugar (only Domino would do), and then generously sprinkle on Watkins cinnamon. Thank you, Grandma, for the many wonderful memories you have given to me.

Jeff stuck in the street!

Jeff decided that after being home yesterday due to the storm, he had better try to go into work today. Needless to say, he is at home for the day after getting his car back in the driveway.
