A Trip to the Dentist

Today I took the three boys to the dentist to have their teeth cleaned, etc. Everything was great - no cavities for which I am very thankful. Dr. Forgey is so very good with the kids.

I didn't think to take my camera but they took a polaroid snapshot of the three boys with the doctor. So after we got home, I took a digital shot of it and here it is. As one can see photography equipment has come a long way since the days of polaroid cameras.

My New Whiteboard

In my endeavor to become more organized this school year, I have created a Memo Board based on a terrific idea I found on another website. In pricing whiteboards I realized that they were more money than I wanted to spend so used another great idea I came across on the MFW message boards. I purchased Thrifty Tile Board from Home Depot for right under $10.00 before tax and had the board cut into 12 whiteboards (16"w x 24"h). I used Velcro strips to fasten it to my pantry door. I then took Sharpies to write on all my constants (i.e., squares, rectangles, headings, etc.). Then we use dry erase markers to fill in the blanks. I don't like the tips of the dry erase markers I purchased so plan to go and purchase some with ultra fine points. Since taking the picture I have also added another heading under my menu. I have listed "Meal Helper" and then will list the child's name for that day. I will post more later about my routine schedule for the children.
ADDENDUM: After using this for a few days I decided that I didn't like having two days worth of menus on the board so I removed the second day and used the empty spot for a shopping list. If you read my post you may realize that I wrote my constants on with a sharpie. I was able to erase the things written with the sharpie by writing over it with a dry erase marker and then simply erasing.

Down Memory Lane

I didn't get any pictures taken today but was looking back through previous pictures and came across this picture of four of the five children. This picture was taken in July 2004 (three years ago). This was the summer that Curtis broke his leg while riding his bike. In this picture, Briana reminds me quite of bit of Julissa. It is hard to imagine life before Julissa. She brings much laughter and love to our family.

During a pause in one of the services this weekend, Julissa started singing, "Oh Dear, What Can the Matter Be." It was definitely entertaining to those sitting behind us.

Waiting for Breakfast at Cracker Barrel

On Monday morning we went to Cracker Barrel for a late breakfast. Here are pictures of the kids while they were waiting for their breakfast. As you can tell by some of the pictures they were very hungry.

A Short Visit to the St. Louis Arch

The builders of the Arch.

The putting in of the final piece of the Arch.

On our way home Monday we decided to stop by the St. Louis Arch. We watched a documentary on the building of the Arch. It was very interesting and also very intense for a person who likes to remain firmly planted on terra firma. It is very amazing to me that no one died during the building of the Arch. We had an enjoyable time and above are a few of the photos that I took inside. And those of you who know me well will undoubtedly already know that I did not ride the tram to the top of the Arch. None of us did. We decided watching the film was enough for this time. Maybe at some later date we will have some willing to try it. I will post some outside pictures later today or possibly tomorrow.

Our Ride on the Mississippi River Aboard the Tom Sawyer

The Tom Sawyer

Alex, Briana, Curtis, Dixie and Julissa on board the Tom Sawyer. We were on the second level. Jeff and Sam were up on the third (top) level soaking in the heat. We came down a level in order that I might cool down in hope that I would make the ride without developing a migraine.

We took an hour narrated cruise up and down a small portion of the Mississippi River. It was a really enjoyable ride.
