Over Christmas we moved a lamp into our Dining Room to make room for the Christmas Tree. After Christmas was over and everything was put back, we missed having a lamp in the Dining Room. So last week Jeff went out and bought me a lamp for the Dining Room. It matches the floor lamp that he bought me for Christmas for our Office. Thank you, Sweetheart!

Sisters
To A Special Sister
by: Author Unknown
A sister is one of the nicest things
that can happen to anyone.
She is someone to laugh with and share with,
to work with and join in the fun.
She is someone who helps in the rough times
and knows when you need a warm smile.
She is someone who will quietly listen
when you just want to talk for awhile.
A sister is dear to you always,
for she is someone who is always a part
of all the favorite memories
that you keep very close to your heart.

Brothers
A Little Brother Follows Me
by: Author Unknown
A careful boy I want to be; a little brother follows me.

A careful boy I want to be; a little brother follows me.
I do not dare to go astray for fear he'll go the self-same way.
I cannot once escape his eyes; whate'er he sees me do, he tries.
Like me he says he's going to be- that little brother following me.
He thinks that I am good and fine; believes in every word of mine.
The bad in me he must not see- that little brother following me.
I must remember as I go through summer's sun and winter's snow
I'm building for the years to be that little brother following me.

Eastern Sky at Sunset!
My husband came up with the caption for this photo.
I tried to take a sunset picture but it didn't turn out.
So I decided to use a picture of the eastern sky for my Photo A Day!

Posing?!
We enjoyed watching 2 squirrels play around in our backyard today.
This one got close enough I could get a photo through the kitchen window.

A Gift from my Mother-In-Law
This beautiful floral arrangement was given to me for Christmas by my Mother-in-law.
Thank you for thinking of me!
Falling Snow
by: Author Unknown
See the pretty snowflakes
Falling from the sky,
On the wall and housetops
Soft and thick they lie.
On the window ledges,
On the branches bare,
Now how fast they gather,
Filling all the air.
Look into the garden,
Where the grass was green;
Covered by the snowflakes,
Not a blade is seen.
Now the bare black bushes,
All look soft and white,
Every twig is laden --
What a pretty sight!

Curtis Playing the Piano
Here is Curtis doing his piano practie. He started lessons this past summer with a teacher at UBC. He has already progressed on to the 2nd book in the series. I think he is doing a great job. This is one area in which he seems to really concentrate and apply himself. This last couple of weeks he has been practicing the song "Feed the Birds" from Mary Poppins. Something he has really enjoyed, since we just recently watched "Mary Poppins".
Blogging Problems!
I don't know what has happened to my pictures. I have uploaded and posted twice and they are still disappearing on me. I don't have time now to try again but I will hopefully get to it tonight. So until then you will see many blank places on my blog.
The Snowball Fight!
Jeff enjoying himself throwing snowballs at the kids!
If you look closely you can see why Sam is running!
There is a snowball in midair.

My Sister's Twins!
I don't know which one is which. They are fraternal twins but I still have a difficult time telling them apart. These pictures were taken at our Christmas get together by another sister. I thought they were really cute so thought I would share them with you all. I am going to take a guess as to which one is which and say that the one on the left is Melody and the one on the right is Moriah. We will see if "Mom" comments and lets me know whether I have guessed correctly.
Winter Wonderland!
We woke up to snow this morning. It has been a strange winter thus far. We have not had much snow at all. It is really nice to see some snow! Due to the fact that our development's roads were not cleared out yet, we didn't make it to church this morning.

Dining Room Table Centerpiece!
I am going to try and take a Photo A Day this year!
This is my first one! I know I am a little late starting the year but better late than never.
This beautiful centerpiece was made by my sister Holly and given to me for Christmas this year.
Thank you so much for such a beautiful centerpiece that matches my Dining Room so well.

The Enjoyment of Reading Aloud
The Boys Reading!
I just thought I would post a few of the books we have enjoyed reading together along with a poem about reading aloud. A few, for the younger children, that I have enjoyed reading are Make Way for Ducklings, Goodnight Moon, Guess How Much I Love You, Blueberries for Sal, The Little House, Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, Katy and the Big Snow, Lentil, Cranberry Thanksgiving, and The Complete Adventures of Curious George. A few selections from each of the kids - Curtis has enjoyed Our Island Story, Mary Poppins and The Burgess Bird Book for Children. A couple from Samuel - The Complete Tales of Beatrix Potter and The Little House Series. On to Alexander's choices - The Adventures of Peter Cottontail and The Ugly Duckling and Other Fairy Tales. Last but not least of the children capable of giving me an opinion is Briana and her favorite is The Lion Storyteller Bedtime Book. And a book one must not forget The Complete Tales of Winnie the Pooh. This is the book that my Mom had my Dad read aloud back when they were dating.
When Mother Reads Aloud
When Mother reads aloud, the past
Seems real as every day;
I hear the tramp of armies vast,
I see the spears and lances cast,
I join the thrilling fray;
Brave knights and ladies fair and proud
I meet when Mother reads aloud.
When Mother reads aloud, far lands
Seem very near and true;
I cross the deserts’ gleaming sands,
Or hunt the jungle’s prowling bands,
Or sail the ocean blue.
Far heights, whose peaks the cold mists shroud,
I scale, when Mother reads aloud.
When Mother reads aloud, I long
For noble deeds to do...
To help the right, redress the wrong;
It seems so easy to be strong,
So simple to be true.
Oh, thick and fast the visions crowd
My eyes, when Mother reads aloud.

Happy 6th Birthday Alexander!
I think the cake decorator at Marsh did a great job on this cake!
Happy 6th Birthday!
We love you!
Getting ready to blow out that candle!
Now the candle is gone.
I'm patiently waiting to open gifts!
