The Boxcar Children

Last night Alex came to me and told me that he could read The Boxcar Children books. So I had him read the first page to me and sure enough he read it quite well. He then got the first book in the series and read two chapters before going to bed. This morning he spent a lot of time reading and then not long after lunch he finished the book. He is my Kindergartner with whom I have not really spent much time school wise. My older two books read this series the summer between first grade and second grade. After he finished reading the book, he came and told me about some of the things he had read in the book. It is exciting to see a child move into chapter books. Welcome to the world of reading! Today I found a post that relates to this post but is said in oh so much better a way than I have done. Take some time to read this post. It is "Goodbye Dr. Seuss."

Update on Alex

They believe that he has a virus along with what they think is an allergy induced asthma. They are not labeling him as an asthmatic at this point but are going to put him on Singulair which is a preventative allergy/asthma medication. They have also presribed him an albuterol inhaler just in case we find it necessary before the Singulair kicks in. In looking back through his chart, we found that he had gone in for this same thing last March 21st so they plan to just go ahead next March 1st and get him started on the Singular again in hopes of elimating these initial flare ups that seem to come with spring weather.

Alex Not Feeling Well

Alex is not feeling well today. He has been running a slight temp and has a sore throat. He also complains of his chest being hot. So we are going to see the doctor tomorrow to find out what is going on. Last year, I think it may have been around this time of year, they ended up putting him on an allergy/asthma medicine because they thought he might be asthmatic. It seemed to really help him but then he didn't need it through the winter so has been off of it for quite some time. I think maybe the warm weather and being outside quite a bit this week has triggered some sort of allergy response. I don't know for sure but hopefully we will find out tomorrow.
Obviously, he didn't do any school today other than listen to me read one chapter of the book "Little Pear".

Ducks on the creek.
This photo was taken by Samuel.
It is a beautiful 63 degrees outside today. Spring is in the air. The kids are out playing in the mud and dirt down by the creek.

Lincoln Log Fort

Alex and Briana have spent most of the day building and playing with this Lincoln Log Fort. They have been thoroughly enjoying themselves. Curtis and Samuel have also played with them when they took an unathorized break from schoolwork.

Encyclopedia Brown?

Our 6 year old son Alex informed us that Encyclopedia Brown #7 was missing. Jeff truly thought he meant that #7 was missing out of the actual "Encyclopedia Brown" series.

Alex and Briana Enjoying School Time

Alex is determined to learn to read even if Mom doesn't have a lot of time to spend with him. Here he is working at it again. Briana feels like she must be doing something that is school for her. Posted by Picasa
